Why Frame Selection Matters
Proper laser safety eyewear selection involves more than wavelength and Optical Density (OD) alone.
Frame fit, comfort, side protection, compatibility with prescription glasses, and compatibility with other PPE can all affect safety, usability, and long-term compliance.
Different laser environments may require different frame styles depending on factors such as:
Laboratory vs industrial environments
Shared eyewear vs individual eyewear
Face shield compatibility
Prescription eyewear requirements
User comfort preferences
Required field of vision
Below are the primary laser safety eyewear frame styles we offer and the applications they are commonly used for.
Frame 10 – Fit-Over
Most Popular Polycarbonate Frame
The Frame 10 Fit-Over is our most popular laser safety eyewear frame by a significant margin.
Benefits include:
Large field of vision
Side shields for additional coverage and protection
Adjustable temples
Fits over many prescription glasses
Fits over most splash goggles
This frame is commonly selected because:
It accommodates a wide range of users
It is often the most economical solution for shared laboratory environments
It works well for many polycarbonate laser safety glasses
In most standard applications involving polycarbonate laser safety eyewear, this frame is highly recommended.
Common product range:
100-10-101 through 100-10-146
Frame 35 – Spectacle
Most Popular Glass & Dielectric-Coated Frame
The Frame 35 Spectacle is our most popular option for:
Glass laser safety filters
Dielectric-coated laser safety filters
Benefits include:
Fits larger heads and faces
Fits over many standard prescription glasses
Wide field of vision
Good side protection
Comfortable fit
This is our second most popular frame and is commonly selected for glass and dielectric-coated laser safety glasses.
Common product range:
100-35-200 through 100-35-345
Frame 38 – Sports-Wrap
Low-Profile Athletic Style
The Frame 38 Sports-Wrap provides a closer-fitting, lower-profile design with a more modern athletic feel.
Benefits include:
Close fit to the face
Lightweight design
Good side protection
This frame has also been used underneath certain face shields and additional PPE configurations.
Frame 40 – Aviator
Traditional Aviator Style
The Frame 40 Aviator is one of our less commonly selected frame styles.
Some customers prefer this frame based on personal fit and feel preferences.
Frame 25 – Goggle
Goggle-Style Frame
The Frame 25 Goggle is the largest and most substantial frame option in our lineup.
It is most commonly used when the selected filter requires a goggle-style frame, such as certain laminated lens configurations where two lenses are bonded together.
Many customers initially assume they need the most coverage possible, but the goggle frame is not always the best choice for comfort or fit. For many applications, the Frame 10 Fit-Over or Frame 35 Spectacle may be a better practical option.
Considerations:
Most expensive frame option
More substantial on the face
Fit can vary significantly by face shape
Not usually the first frame we recommend unless there is a specific reason to use it
If you are unsure whether the goggle frame is necessary, contact us before ordering.
Children’s Glasses – Frame 27/28
Frame 27 and Frame 28 are children’s laser safety eyewear frames.
27 Frame – Kids Pink
28 Frame – Kids Blue
These frames work well for children approximately 1–3 years old.
They are not intended for older children and generally will not fit properly outside that age range.
